The Bill Bomar Cross Collection includes 278 crosses from around the world, the majority of which derive from artists and artisans of northern New Mexico. The crosses are universal, representing different countries, religions, and form, revealing the infinite creativity of expression by artists, both named and anonymous.
The crosses were collected over five decades by the late Bill Bomar, an artist whose family was from Albany. Bomar lived for many years in New York, and in the 1970’s, moved to the northern New Mexican community of Ranchos de Taos where he spent the remainder of his life. A founding trustee and major benefactor of the Old Jail Art Center, Albany, Texas, Bomar bequeathed his Cross Collection to the OJAC upon his death in 1991.
