This retablo is pieced together with several carved and cut out pieces of wood. Four fan-shaped areas come out from a central rectangular piece, giving the retablo an irregular shape. Each fan section is painted blue with yellow and green decorative markings. At the base of each fan is an indented half-circle painted green with a glittery paint applied over the green. The retablo is approximately an inch deep and painted bright yelow along the side. The center wood panel consists of a large central angel or Saint, she is wearing a pale green robe and seems to be leaning towards the viewer or seated. She has some type of black garment on her calves and top part of her foot. The black garment is trimmed with white and her bare toes stick out. In her left hand she holds what appears to be a fish on a large ring. her right hand is raised halfway up and she pints her index finger skyward. The Saint has long brown hair flowing down either side of her face. Her facial features are very simply painted with black lines, with her lips and eyebrows painted a darker flesh-tone. To her right sits a bird on the ground. Four angel faces with wings and halos peer over the Saint's shoulders, two faces on either side of her. The back of the retablo has a prayer painted in black and the artist's signature. It reads, " San Rafel: Blessed are angel. Help me all my blessings amen" and signed below it reads: "TAOS 04 lydia."
