Object Description
In this series, Goya depicted various heroes of bull fighting, in this case his friend Martincho. With the crowd peering into the ring from the left edge, Martincho is seen fighting the bull in the ring. Dressed in typical toreador costume, he is sitting ina a straight-backed chair within the bull ring, his ankles in shackels. He holds a wide-brimmed hat between his body and the bull with one hand and a picador in this right hand and pointed at the bull's neck. The bull is seen charging at Martincho, having just entered the ring through an opening on the left. As he charges, his head is lowered and his horns head straight for the bull fighter.
