Gene Owens

American, b. 1931
Born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1931. Studies: Texas Wesleyan College, Fort Worth, B.A., 1955; University of Georgia, Athens, M.F.A., 1958. Assistant Professor of Art, Arlington State College, Texas 1955-56. Assistant professor of Art, University of Georgia, 1957-58. Head, Art Department, Texas Wesleyan College 1958-60. Since 1960 has devoted full time to sculpture; has worked with Isamu Noguchi on six separate occasions since 1965. One Man exhibitions: University of Georgia, Athens, 1961; Fifth Avenue Gallery, Fort Worth, 1961; Fort Worth Art Center, 1964; Gallery in the square, Fort Worth, 1967; The New Gallery, Fort Worth, 1980; Fort Worth Gallery, Fort Worth, 1991.Group exhibitions include: “Religious Sculpture”, Fort Worth Art Center, 1961; “Two Texas Artists,” Fort Worth Art Center 1962, Tarrant County Annual Exhibition, Fort Worth Art Center 1968 (best of show award); National Council on the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts “Award Winning Artists Southeast and Southwest,” 1968; “Project S/SW on Younger American Artists,” Fort Worth Art Center, 1970; “Gene Owens and Kevin Marshall,” Two Person Show, Fort Worth Gallery, 1984; “The First Texas Invitational,” Knights of Pythias Building, Fort Worth.
